Discover the world of Mills
The Zaanse Schans is world famous for its windmills. Rightfully so, because this is where the industrial revolution started. The wind helped the Dutch to make wanted products. People lived, worked and shipped things on the water; it was a busy city in the early nineteenth century. A unique Dutch landscape in the world.
If you are talking about chocolate and the Zaanse Schans, you can't skip the Verkade factory. Right in the middle of the Zaanse Museum is the Verkade Experience, also known as Verkade Paviljoen, where you enter the Verkade chocolate and cookie factory as it looked at the start of the twentieth century. A real experience, you can see the original machines at work.
